You trust your hairdresser. You’ve been going to them for years. You wouldn’t let anyone else touch your hair.

And then you move to a different area, or they move to a different area and you need to find someone new to look after your locks.

But how do you choose a new hairdresser?

Here’s my 5 top tips:

1. Recommendations

Do you have a new work colleague with fabulous hair? Or does a school run mum have exactly the style you’d like. Then ask them to let you who their hairdresser is.

Take a look on social media or search the web as well. Positive reviews on Google and Facebook will give you peace of mind.

2. Check their knowledge

A good hairdresser will have great product knowledge and be able to talk to you about the latest trends.

If having a colour treatment, you will need a patch test beforehand. If you’re not offered one, look elsewhere for a hairdresser that is not willing to risk your health by cutting corners.

3. Look at their work

Check out the pictures on their website and social media channels. Before and after shots can really showcase a stylist’s talent. But beware of photoshop and stock photos not giving the true picture.

 4. Price is not necessarily a marker for quality

Assuming that if it is expensive, it must be good can be a mistake. The quality of a hairstyle cannot be guaranteed by how much you are willing to pay. Think about your budget and find a stylist with prices you are comfortable paying.

5. Trust your instincts

Do you feel comfortable with your hairdresser? Do they make you feel relaxed at the consultation? Do you feel they are offering honest advice?

It is important that you feel able to talk to your stylist and tell them if you are happy, or not, throughout the process.
